How Probiotics Can Help With Weight Loss

Despite the advances in modern medicine, many people continue to struggle with their weight, evidenced by the epidemic of diabetes and obesity that faces this country. With so many advertisements for weight loss and belly fat reduction in the media today, it’s hard to know which sources are credible.
Here at Cornerstone Wellness Center, we believe in fixing things at the root cause level.
To better understand how we treat weight loss and how probiotics can help, let’s have a little science lesson! We’re going to talk about what’s going on at the cellular level when you can’t lose weight. It’s kind of important to know this so that you can fix it!
Everything starts with your cells.
When you look at the structure of healthy cells, you’ll see they are all coated in cholesterol and saturated fats.
On the outside of all your cells are your hormone and nutrient receptors.
In a healthy cell, your hormones and nutrients hit their receptor site, go inside the cell, make energy called ATP, and then waste products are ushered out.

Unhealthy Cells

But, if you are having a hard time losing weight, if your hormones are out of balance, or if you just don’t feel right—there’s something deeper going on!
What needs to be addressed is the inflammation at the deep, cellular level. When you have a lot of inflammation, your hormone and nutrient receptors become blunted and do not function properly.
Now you aren’t getting the good stuff in AND you aren’t getting the toxic waste out of your cells.. As a result, our cells become more and more toxic.

What Happens When Our Cells Are Toxic?

When our cells are toxic, not only do we start aging prematurely, but we begin to store excess fat.
We start storing more fat because the fat is grabbing onto the toxins that are creating the inflammation. Basically your fat is trying to save your life by keeping the toxins stored safely inside the fat and OUT of your bloodstream.
When we have high inflammation for long periods of time we can actually turn on weak genetics and turn on certain diseases. We don’t want to do that!

How Do We Fix Toxic Cells?

What we have to do, no matter what health issue you are dealing with, is to address the inflammation and what’s causing it.
Reducing inflammation and healing at the cellular level can help to turn your hormone and nutrient receptors back on, so you look and feel so much better!
For those of you that are weight loss resistant, reducing toxic exposures and rejuvenating your cells is the first step in releasing toxic fat.

How can a Probiotic help with Weight Loss?

Probiotic is a term that is used to refer to foods with active cultures in them. The active cultures that probiotics contain are live, beneficial bacteria that live naturally in the human digestive tract.
These bacteria can break down materials that the body would not be able to digest otherwise, such as certain types of fiber and sugars.
This helps keep our cells operating normally and reducing the inflammation around them.
Good bacteria also produces the vitamins and hormones that our cells are collecting to convert into energy.
Evidence has shown that certain types of bacteria found in probiotics can help increase the production, release, and activity of a hormone called GLP-1.
This hormone works with another bodily hormone called leptin to help people feel full and reduce their appetite. It also helps to counteract another hormone called ghrelin which makes people hungry.
Without a large appetite, it is easier to eat less and lose weight.

Probiotics Can Reduce Belly Fat

Research on probiotics has also demonstrated that it could increase levels of another protein labeled ANGPTL4. This protein is used to reduce the levels of fat storage throughout the body.
Certain bacteria found in probiotics release signals that modulate the various levels and activity of this protein. When this protein is upregulated, the amount of fat stored throughout the body decreases. This increases the amount of fat that is passed through the digestive tract.
Multiple studies have been performed on a specific type of bacteria called Lactobacillus, a bacteria commonly found in probiotics. They have demonstrated that patients consuming various types of Lactobacillus lose more weight than the average person on a typical diet and exercise routine.
Even better, the weight being lost is body fat and not muscle!
Overall, probiotics can help you both lose weight and slim belly fat.
